Montana's Coffee House.

Family owned, veteran run, built from the ground up — right here on Prospect Ave. Come for the coffee. Stay for everything else.

Why 1889?

Montana became a state on November 8, 1889. We think that's worth remembering.

1889 Coffee House was built by our family — from the ground up, on a site that used to be a gas station. Twenty months of work later, we opened our doors on Prospect Ave with one goal: to be the kind of place Helena actually needs. Somewhere to slow down, have a real conversation, and drink genuinely great coffee.

This is our place, and we'd like it to be yours too.

Great Coffee Starts at the Source

We source exclusively from Ghost Town Coffee Roasters in Bozeman, Montana — a specialty roaster that takes the bean-to-cup journey seriously.

Our espresso drinks are built on Ghost Town's Stonehouse Espresso blend. Drip coffee drinkers will find our house blend, the Signature "1889," waiting for them. Beans are sourced from Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Honduras, Peru, Rwanda, and Sumatra — and Ghost Town is always testing new blends and seasonal releases, so there's usually something worth trying for the first time.

Cold Brew on Tap

We steep ground coffee in cold water for an extended period of time, then store it in kegs until it's ready. Pull the tap handle and nitrogen meets cold brew through a stout faucet — delivering a cold, foamy pour unlike anything that comes out of a drip machine.

If you haven't tried it, you should.
